Chain link fences in Jacksonville

Chain link is the fence nobody puts on a magazine cover and everybody with a big yard and a dog thinks about. It covers the most ground for the money, lasts a long time and lets wind straight through. Black vinyl-coated chain link looks a lot better than the bare galvanized kind and costs a bit more.

  • Large back yards on the Westside, the Northside or in Clay County, where the length makes wood or vinyl expensive.
  • Keeping dogs in. Pair it with a bottom tension wire or a buried edge if you have a digger.
  • Side yards and utility areas behind a nicer fence that faces the street.
  • Small commercial lots and storage areas.

What it costs

Chain link, per linear foot installed$12.25 to $40Fixr, Jan 2025

Fixr, updated January 2025. National installed range per linear foot.

The range is wide because height and wire gauge change everything. A 4 foot residential fence with a light wire sits at the bottom. A 6 foot commercial fence with heavier wire, a top rail and a rolling gate sits at the top.

What to ask

  • What gauge is the mesh, and is it galvanized or vinyl-coated?
  • Is there a top rail, and a tension wire at the bottom?
  • How deep are the line posts and terminal posts set, and in what?
  • How wide are the gates, and will a mower or a trailer fit?

Privacy slats exist, but they turn an open fence into a sail. If you need privacy, put it where you need it and keep the rest open. Why that matters in a storm.

Questions Jacksonville homeowners ask

Is chain link the least expensive fence?

For long runs it is usually among the cheapest per foot installed, though Fixr's chain link range overlaps with wood. Height and gauge decide where your job lands.

Does chain link rust in Florida?

Galvanized wire resists rust for years, but near salt water it ages faster. Vinyl-coated wire adds another layer and looks cleaner.

Can I put chain link in my front yard?

Zoning rules cap front yard height, usually at 4 feet in Jacksonville, and many HOAs ban chain link in front yards outright. Check both before you order.
