Fence repair in Jacksonville

Most fence repairs are post repairs. A panel blown flat in a storm usually went because the post under it was already rotted at the ground line. Fix the post and the panel goes back up. Fix only the panel and you will be doing it again.

Common repairs

  • Leaning or snapped posts. The post is pulled and a new one set, sometimes in a new hole beside the old concrete.
  • Panels down after wind. Often reusable if the pickets are intact and the post gets replaced.
  • Sagging gates. Usually the hinge post has moved or the gate frame has racked. An anti-sag kit fixes some; a new post fixes the rest.
  • Broken rails and loose pickets. Cheap fixes, worth doing before they let the panel twist.
  • Damage from a tree or a car. If it was a covered event, keep photos and the repair quote for an insurance claim.

Repair or replace?

Push on a few posts along the line. If one or two move and the rest are solid, repair. If most of them rock, the fence is at the end of its life even if the boards look fine, and you will spend repair money over and over. A fence company can tell you which you have; ask them to show you, not just tell you.

Matching is the other question. Pickets weather, vinyl profiles get discontinued, and a repaired section can stand out. On a small run that is fine. On the side the neighbors see, it may be a reason to replace the whole side.

After a storm

Take photos before anything is moved. If the fence holds in a dog or guards a pool, a temporary barrier comes first; tell the company that when you call. The FTC warns that home repair scammers may show up after a storm and pressure you to pay or decide fast. You do not have to sign with the first truck that stops. Fences and hurricane season.

Questions Jacksonville homeowners ask

Can a leaning fence be straightened?

Sometimes, if the post is sound and only the footing shifted. If the post is rotted at the ground line, it needs to be replaced, not braced.

Does homeowners insurance cover a fence?

Many policies cover fences as other structures for sudden events like a fallen tree or wind, minus the deductible. Rot and wear are generally not covered. Read your policy or ask your agent.

Can I put an old fence out for bulk trash?

Check your city or county's bulk pickup rules before you stack panels at the curb; size and amount limits vary by place. If a company is replacing the fence, ask whether haul-off of the old one is in the quote.

Who pays for a shared fence repair?

Usually the neighbors work it out between themselves, in writing if the job is big. If you can't agree, check whose land the fence sits on: a survey settles it.
